IHG Shanghai Wonderland
We were contracted to design and build a bespoke trussing structure for Ericsson Wired. The installation showcased holograms of Ericsson’s 5G, the latest generation of mobile connection, with 2G, 3G and 4G preceding.
5G, short for fifth generation mobile networks, was developed by a number of the world’s biggest telecom companies, including Ericsson. It is approximately 100 times faster than 4G (a full feature length film can be downloaded in 4-40 seconds, as opposed to 2.5 minutes on 4G) and is already being used in South Korea and the USA. 5G is due to arrive in the UK before the end of the year. Aside from enjoying your favourite film that little bit faster, a report carried out by O2 last March stated that the average British bill-payer could expect to save up to £450 a year on council tax, energy and food bills with 5Gs ability to power smart fridges and smart grids for electric cars.
To promote 5G, Ericsson were exhibiting at the Wired Live show at London’s Tate Modern. We were contracted us to build the structure of the installation plus set framing, lighting, audio, power and vinyl application. The project had a very quick turnaround of just 6 days.
The installation consisted of a 2 metre high wooden box with an aperture in the front where gallery visitors would be able to read information about 5G, projected on suspended holographic gauze. The projector sat in the bottom of the box, hidden by stage flats which covered every surface of the truss skeleton. The content for the holograms was provided by the client.
Although the installation was designed and built in our warehouse, it could easily be assembled on-site. The baton of the stage flats had pre-drilled holes so it could be assembled by hand without the need for any tools.
It was a pleasure to be part of such an engaging exhibition for such an important tech company at Tate Modern. If you need to convey key information as part of your brand, a new launch or service and would like to discuss alternative ways to do this, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
